As algas s\u00e3o organismos eucariotos (possuem carioteca), aut\u00f3trofas (a maioria das esp\u00e9cies) que comp\u00f5em um grupo muito diversificado de vida. Muitas s\u00e3o macrosc\u00f3picas, multicelulares, e vivem fixas nos ambientes aqu\u00e1ticos, como nos cost\u00f5es rochosos.
